Privacy Policy

Camel ("the App") is a macOS menu bar application developed and operated under the Camel name. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Camel is designed with privacy as a default. The App processes your clipboard text locally on your device. Your clipboard content is never sent to Camel servers.

The only information that may leave your device:

2. Clipboard Data

Camel reads your clipboard content to display and transform it. Built-in tools — formatting, encoding, hashing, timestamps, case conversion and the rest — run entirely on your Mac. Clipboard content is stored locally for the duration of your session, or for as long as you keep history enabled, and is never uploaded, logged, or shared with any third party.

Saved Snippets are stored locally in your macOS user account using standard macOS storage mechanisms.

Content that a password manager marks as confidential is skipped by default, and you can add any app to an ignore list so nothing copied from it is recorded.

3. Custom AI Actions

Custom AI Actions run on your Mac by default. Your instruction and clipboard text are processed by Apple Intelligence through Apple's system frameworks. Camel does not send that content to Camel servers or to a third-party AI API.

Each action can also be set to run on Apple's Private Cloud Compute, which handles longer text and, in the reasoning mode, more complex instructions. This is a per-action choice available with Camel Pro, it is never enabled automatically, and Camel asks you to confirm before the first cloud run. When such an action runs, that action's clipboard text and instruction are sent to Apple's Private Cloud Compute for processing. Apple states that it uses this data only to process the request and does not store it; Apple's Privacy Policy and its Apple Intelligence documentation govern that processing. Cloud actions require an internet connection and macOS 27 or later, and are subject to a daily limit tied to your iCloud account.

Actions left on your Mac never send anything anywhere, and they keep working without an internet connection.

4. Usage Analytics

Camel uses Mixpanel to understand which features are used and where people get stuck. Events are pseudonymous per installation: Camel does not create a user profile, does not identify you, and does not link events to your name, email address, or Apple Account. Data is processed in Mixpanel's EU region, and IP-based geolocation is disabled.

An event records that something happened, plus a few safe attributes — for example that a built-in action ran and whether it was started from the menu or a keyboard shortcut, or that a Custom AI Action finished and whether it ran on your Mac or in the cloud.

Analytics events never include the text you copy, AI instructions or output, snippet or folder names, custom action names, file names, email addresses, or feedback content.

5. How We Use Information

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.

6. Feedback

When you choose to send feedback, the app collects your message, an anonymous installation ID, device model, macOS version, app version, and locale. You may optionally provide your email address for follow-up. This data is sent to our backend (Supabase) solely to process your feedback and is never used for advertising or shared with third parties.

7. Data Retention

Feedback data is retained only as long as reasonably necessary to operate the feedback channel, respond to inquiries, and improve the App. Analytics events are retained in aggregate for product analysis. Retention periods may vary based on operational, security, and legal requirements.

8. Children's Privacy

Camel is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the App, please contact us so we can delete it.

9. Third-Party Services

10. Your Rights

Because Camel collects limited personal data, there is little to act on. However, you may:

Analytics events carry no identifier that we can trace back to you, which also means we cannot locate the events from one particular installation in order to delete them.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect the limited data we handle. Feedback and analytics are transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and stored securely.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
